Welcome to my website. Here you will find galleries of my work, information about me, and an opportunity to purchase originals or prints of my paintings.
I create en plein aire and studio paintings in watercolor and oil of landscapes, people, still life, and wildlife from Montana and other special places around the world. Whatever the subject may be, I try to capture the essence of a particularly striking moment in an impressionistic to realistic style that invites the viewer to share the experience and a moment of connection with the subject.
My parents recognized my early interest in drawing and sent me to the local art museum and various artists' studios for lessons. I continued with private painting lessons as well as art classes through college and received a Master of Fine Arts in stage design from the University of Montana in 1981. I taught design, drawing, painting, and lighting at several universities and freelanced as a member of United Scenic Artists of America. During this time I began architectural restoration painting and decorative painting and operated a studio providing these services, as well as stage design, construction, and scene painting.
I gradually made a transition to full time fine art painting by 1995 and have displayed my paintings in many one-man and group shows, as well as taken many private commissions. My paintings are displayed in private collections around the world.
